There can be no doubt that DragonCon is one of the most awesome pop culture experiences in the world, especially for those who are involved in fandom. The Con has now spawned a fandom all of its own, The Cult of the Marriott Carpet, which brings color and creativity to the DragonCon parade annually. This magical carpet is synonymous with the nostalgia of fandoms past at DragonCon, and represents the history of this amazing convention and the fans that call it their family reunion.

What better way to celebrate that history and nostalgia than to memorialize it with the most recognizable of tunes from fandoms and their “spoofs” on DragonCon TV! In 2019, the Marriott Carpet Marching Band was founded by Mera Rose, a 23 year veteran con-goer, musician, and costumer. The band began with Mera’s simple interest post on the DragonCon Facebook groups seeking former band geeks and musicians who would be interested in playing together. It quickly grew to 125 members with band boosters, musicians, and a color guard from around the country. Coordinating practices online and using technology to learn choreography and make the most fun band uniforms ever, the MCU Marching Dragons will march for the first time ever in the DragonCon Parade in Atlanta, Labor Day Weekend 2020!
